Concrete Contractors in Independence

Independence has some of the oldest housing stock in the Kansas City metro. Homes in Fairmount, Englewood, and around the Independence Square were built in the 1920s–1950s, and their original concrete — driveways, sidewalks, basement walls — is well past engineered service life. Replacement work makes up the majority of what we do here, not new installation. These older slabs are often 3 inches thick with no reinforcement, and when they go, they go all at once.

Period architecture requires some aesthetic awareness. When we replace a driveway on a 1940s bungalow in Fairmount, a plain broom-finish slab looks right. Some homeowners want something that complements the historic character of the neighborhood — exposed aggregate with a salt-finish border, or a subtle integral color — and we can deliver that without making it look out of place next to 80-year-old brick.

Independence has an active sidewalk replacement program in older neighborhoods — the city covers a portion of replacement costs when sidewalks are flagged under the shared cost program. If your sidewalk has been cited by the city, it's worth calling the Public Works department before hiring privately. You may be able to reduce your out-of-pocket cost significantly.

One practical note: Independence has older water and sewer infrastructure in many neighborhoods, and underground utilities in some areas aren't accurately mapped. We always call 811 before breaking ground — it's legally required — but in Independence specifically, we proceed carefully when demolishing old flatwork near utility corridors. An unmarked gas or sewer line is a real risk in this part of the metro.
